Rise Of The Ronin’s Sales Are Doing Better Than The Nioh Games, Says Koei Tecmo

Glad tidings in motion for the Japanese giant.

Story Highlights

  • Rise of the Ronin is a samurai action-adventure RPG that has just graced the PS5 as an exclusive game.
  • According to the owner of the IP, Koei Tecmo, Rise of the Ronin is doing better in sales than Nioh.
  • It’s also acquired a “high valuation” by the players, not to mention the game’s fantastic critical reception.

Considering the quality on display here, one would assume that Rise of the Ronin is doing pretty nice and tight commercially, but to think that it’s already outselling the Nioh games felt a bit out of reach. Well, according to Koei Tecmo’s financial report for the fiscal year ending March 2024, the game appears to be doing just that, earning a “high valuation” from the players in the process of doing so.

With Team Ninja acting as the developing head, this is Koei Tecmo’s very first AAA open-world action RPG, heading straight to the PlayStation 5 as an exclusive title, with a potential release prospect for PC down the road, given how Sony has switched up its strategy with first-party games since quite a few years now.

Team Ninja’s Expertise With Action Combat Is Easily Spotted In Rise Of The Ronin

Previously, Koei Tecmo let out an official statement, projecting the action-adventure exclusive to sell at least 5 million copies, and apparently, things seem to be proceeding well on that front. That’s because the Nioh franchise has clocked about 7 million sales worldwide as of October 2022, and it took the two Nioh titles 7 years to arrive at this point commercially.

And to put things into due perspective, Rise of the Ronin came out on March 22, 2024, basically a month from now. Incredible stats for a title that hasn’t been out in the wild for even 6 months. Elsewhere in the report, Koei Tecmo also notes that the game has “raised the level of our development, technology, and management” and that the release has been “a significant step towards mid to long-term growth.”

eXputer rated Rise of the Ronin 4/5 in its review, with author Haris remarking, “Despite its shortcomings, trust me when I say it: Ronin’s gameplay, bosses, and traversal mechanics keep you hooked until the end.” On a side note, though, new players should learn what the best build in the game is before they start taking on some of the tougher enemies.
