Starfield’s First Expansion Shattered Space To Release Next Year

Bethesda is looking forward to a feature-intensive 2024.

Story Highlights

  • Starfield is one of Xbox’s biggest exclusives in terms of scale to release this generation.
  • The sci-fi third-person shooter just received a major dev update for the end of the year.
  • 2024 looks fantastic for Starfield, with new features and its first-ever DLC coming in.

Starfield came out in September this year and has managed to rake in lukewarm fan interest, despite years of anticipation and overall appeal. However, that hasn’t stopped Bethesda from planning big for its flagship new IP, definitely not anytime soon. A new post on the official developer site summarizes Starfield’s year-end, with Bethesda saying that a lot is coming for the sci-fi RPG in 2024, including Shattered Space.

It’s coming up on the end of the year, and we want to thank all our players for joining us for the incredible launch of Starfield. With 13 million players since September, this has been the biggest launch in our history. Your support of this new adventure has meant everything to us.”

While detailing some interesting statistics that Starfield players were able to clock for the remainder of the year, Bethesda affirms that the post isn’t just to bid 2023 goodbye. A swath of updates has been lined out for the game next year, with the developer clarifying its goals and ambitions that it wants to pursue with Starfield going forward. For starters, a major title update is coming in February 2024.

First, we’re targeting updates roughly every six weeks starting in February. These updates will include everything from quality-of-life improvements to content and feature updates. Join our Steam Beta branch to be the first to try these updates as they begin rolling out.”

Furthermore, the developer has expanded upon its previous promise of bringing more core features to Starfield in 2024, saying that it will be adding “new ways to travel” and the ability to “access city maps while exploring the major cities.” The ship customization front is also about to receive more decorations, building options, and “more.” And, of course, there’s the update about the game’s DLC expansion.

And lastly, the team is hard at work on the development of Shattered Space, our first major expansion coming next year. You’ll have new story content, new locations, new gear, and much more. We can’t wait to share more with you next year.”

Word on this expansion has been scant, with Bethesda only revealing its official logo on the cover art of Starfield’s Digital Premium Edition. Apparently, this particular version of the RPG comes with the expansion, so when Shattered Space finally releases, you’ll be able to download it right away, no questions asked.
