The world’s biggest event for all things gaming, gamescom 2021, will be held between 25th August and 27th August. As such, the international jury comprised of German and international industry experts, journalists and content creators has nominated games for 22 categories — according to Games Press. Among a few of the categories is the much-awaited action RPG from FromSoftware, Elden Ring.
The press release for the gamescom 2021 awards reads, “The nominees for gamescom award 2021 have been set. The international jury comprised of German and international games experts, journalists, and content creators has nominated games in 22 categories. Now, partners and fans of gamescom (August 25 – August 27) are eagerly expecting the announcement of the winners. A first batch of trophies in the Platform categories will be awarded on Wednesday at gamescom: Opening Night Live.”
Elden Ring was announced in June 2019 at E3 2019 and the official gameplay trailer was then revealed in June 2021. The game is set to release in January 2022, so it’s intriguing to see under a few of the categories for the gamescom 2021 awards, particularly since many players haven’t had much confidence in the existence of the franchise.
We haven’t seen much action from FromSoftware regarding the upcoming Elden Ring. For now, all that we have of the game is the official gameplay trailer. However, Elden Ring being nominated for 5 categories could suggest that we may get to see some form of it during gamescom 2021.
Until Saturday, 28th August (3:00 P.M. CEST), you can vote for the Best Streamer and gamescom “Most Wanted” Consumer Award. Winners of all these categories will then be awarded throughout the gamescom studio event. You can watch the gamescom: Opening Night Live and the gamescom studio event, along with further gamescom shows on the official website.
