PSVR2 Could Release as Early as This Summer

The next generation of PlayStation VR could be coming sooner than you think!

Sony took the stage at CES 2022 to announce their next-gen VR’s official title and specs. However, they did not provide an official word about its expected release window. When asked about it and backwards compatibility info by Stephen Totilo, Sony said they have nothing further to announce at the moment. However, something tells us that the PSVR2 could release as early as this summer.

Sony has confirmed that the PSVR 2 offers 4K HDR, a 110-degree field of view, foveated rendering, and frame rates of 90/120Hz. The hardware also features inside-out tracking. It allows your movements to be seamlessly detected by the game without the need for an external camera.

On top of that, the headset feedback and the PSVR 2 Sense controller creates a deeper feeling of immersion. These new sensory features could change the entire VR game. Players will be able to feel the rush while playing VR games. While the release date is not officially confirmed, there has been speculation as to when it will come out.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the analyst of TF International, Sony could start shipping the PSVR2 as soon as the 2nd Quarter of 2022.

“[We] predict that Sony’s PS5 VR will be shipped from 2Q22, and Yujingguang and Goertek will be the Fresnel lens suppliers.”

Although Ming-Chi Kuo is a trustworthy analyst, this report contradicts the prediction of Daniel Ahmed of Niko Partners. Who writes;

“We currently expect PlayStation VR 2 to launch towards the end of 2022, assuming no supply chain impact that pushes it into 2023.”

The report from Kuo at least affirms that the Japanese tech giant wants their VR hardware out in the market as early as possible. It wouldn’t be far fetched to assume we could get official hardware to reveal towards the end of Q1 2022. This would be an excellent opportunity to show more of their upcoming VR game Horizon: Call of the Mountain.

Speaking of Horizon, the new game will be exclusive to the PSVR 2 and will feature an entirely new character. During your playthrough, you will meet with characters like Aloy and other familiar faces as well. This game will probably release alongside the PSVR 2 to boost sales. Let us know what do you think about the PSVR 2 and do you expect it to release so soon?
