What Is Berserker Armor Set
Berserker Armor is designed to cause tons of damage to your opponents. That is thanks to its passive skills in the game. Each of these armor pieces has skills that make it the perfect armor set for a Berserker. It ensures that even if you’re losing, the armor’s passive will ensure that you come out on top in a fight. If you’re wondering about the Berserker Armor and how to get it in GOW Ragnarok, the method is pretty straightforward. To unlock the armor set, you’ll have to make progress in a specific side quest favor. In that quest, you’ll have to travel to three specific Berserker Gravestones to defeat a set of Berserkers. More on that in a while.
- Berserker Waist Guard (Unlocks at Level 5): Offers solid defense and various stats, featuring the skill “Soulless Rebuke,” which triggers a soul explosion upon taking damage, granting a chance to retaliate and restore relic cooldown.
- Berserker Gauntlets (Unlocks at Level 6): Provides substantial strength and other attributes, with the skill “Soulless Assault,” granting a chance for successful hits to cause a soul explosion, dealing damage and reducing relic cooldown.
- Berserker Cuirass (Unlocks at Level 7): Boasts impressive strength and defense, along with the skill “Soulless Warrior,” which significantly boosts Kratos’ melee attack damage when using a relic but also increases damage received for a duration.
Here’s a quick look at the Stats of the Berserker Armor set:

Unlocking Berserker Armor
The Berserker Armor isn’t available until you get to Chapter 9: Word of Fate of the game. At that time, you’d need to start a quest called Fit for a King. The Quest can be started once you acquire The Inert Hilt of Skofnung.
Chapter 9: The Word of Fate starts when Kartos travels to Midgard. You can progress through the story as usual until you get to the fight with the Fierce Ogre.
As you progress through the story, you’ll come into a clearing with a pile of rubble in the middle of it. Now, you’ll have to go to that pile and interact with it. When you do so, you’ll receive the Inert Hilt of Skofnung. That will start a Side Quest Favor – Fit for a King.
The Quest itself is quite long. In it, you’ll have to defeat Berserkers found at three specific Berserker Gravestones. They are Fraekni the Zealous, Svipdagr the Cold, and two Sisters of Illska, and Skjothendi the Unerring. These berserkers are scattered at different locations.
Berserker Waist Guard
- Location: Defeat Fraekni the Zealous, located in Midgard near Tyr’s Temple. Her Gravestone is found north of the temple in the Lake of Nine. Interact with the Gravestone to summon Fraekni and engage in combat to obtain the Waist Guard.
- Strategy: Fraekni is typically the first boss encountered in Berserker Gravestone hunts. While she may initially seem challenging, focus on learning her attack patterns. Dodge her ranged attacks and time your dodges or blocks for her melee attacks. Use the R3 button to lock onto her and maintain focus during the fight. Patience and proper timing are key to overcoming her.
- Rewards: Upon defeating Fraekni, she drops the Berserker Waist Guard along with other items including 2x Tempered Remnants, 25x Bonded Leather, and 25x Shattered Runes. Collect these items as your rewards.
Berserker Cuirass
- Location: Travel to the Alfheim region and head to The Barrens in the easternmost corner. Locate the Berserker Gravestone and insert the Inert Hilt of Skofnung to summon three Berserkers: Svipdagr the Cold and the two Sisters of Illska.
- Strategy: Despite the apparent disadvantage of a 3v1 battle, approach the fight strategically. Begin by focusing on eliminating the Sisters of Illska, as they share a health bar and pose a threat with their elemental and ranged attacks. Once they’re dealt with, focus on Svipdagr, who wields powerful cold elemental attacks and dual axes.
- Rewards: Upon defeating Svipdagr, he drops the Berserker Cuirass along with other valuable items such as Asgard’s Security, 180x Bonded Leather, Frozen Flame, 75x Shattered Runes, and 5x Tempered Remnants.
Berserker Gauntlets
- Location: Travel to the Niflheim region and head to the Mist Fields area. From the Mystic Gateway, head west until you reach an opening where you’ll find a Gravestone. Interacting with it summons Skjothendi the Unerring, a powerful Berserker.
- Rewards: Upon defeating Skjothendi, you’ll receive the Berserker Gauntlets along with other rewards, including 40x Bonded Leather, 40x Shattered Runes, and 3x Tempered Remnants.
Berserker Armor Upgrades
So that was all there was on how to unlock Berserker Armor in the game GOW Ragnarok. The Armor set is unlocked at different stages in the game. The Waist Guard is unlocked relatively in mid-game, whereas Gauntlets are unlocked in the late game.
To ensure the armor is up to the standard of that part of the game, all pieces of the Armor Set are unlocked at different levels. The Waist Guard is unlocked at Level 5, the Gauntlets at Level 6, and the Cuirass is unlocked at Level 7. It makes upgrading the armor set easier as you won’t have to spend that many resources to upgrade it to Level 9, the Maximum Level.
All in all, the Berserker Armor Set in God of War Ragnarok is already quite powerful. But you should definitely upgrade the armor set to ensure that it is up to the standard and that you can rely on it in a fight.Berserker Waist Guard And Gauntlets Upgrades

My Opinion On The Berserker Armor
The Berserkers gave me a hard time for sure, especially since I bought a couple of them on the Hard difficulty for personal reasons. But despite that, the Berserker armor itself was definitely worth it due to the risk-reward perk of the chest piece, allowing you to dish out insane damage after a relic activation. I loved using it during the Muspelheim Trials, along with, on a few occasions, against the Einherjar trash fodder enemies.
So that is all there is on how to get and upgrade the Berserker Armor in God of War Ragnarok. Now, the armor set unlocks relatively later in the game, so it is a strong and durable armor set. Unlocking it is a chore in itself. You’ll have to defeat a few Berserkers, some of the strongest mini-bosses in the game.
