The Finals’ Launch Gets Greeted With 200,000+ Concurrent Players

Don’t take The Finals too lightly—the game is looking super hot right now. During The Game Awards 2023 live stream, Embark Studios came upfront with the launch trailer of its promising new arena-based first-person shooter, with live service mechanics deep-rooted. Now that we’re 12 hours into the title’s release, unofficial tracker website SteamDB shows its player count going past 200,000+ users. 

To be honest, this isn’t all that much of a shocker, considering how The Finals’ open beta was a resounding success that went on to gather even more concurrent players on PC than what we’re seeing right now. Over 7.5 million people tried out the game show-themed shooter across all platforms, holding the project in high regard, with Embark promising to polish the end product even more thanks to player feedback. 

As for the launch trailer, it’s certainly a flashy showcase of all the chaos that players can expect in the game. I’ll be honest: I gave it a go earlier for an hour or two, and for a free-to-play IP, The Finals holds more potential than the rest of its counterparts that have been alive and kicking in the industry for a while now, namely Valorant, Overwatch 2, and even Apex Legends.

Embark is currently trying to push the server cap every hour, so there’s enough room for everyone to fit in. Of course, some form of turbulence is expected, so trek ahead with patience in case it takes a while for you to connect.

The Finals launched yesterday on December 7, 2023, for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, during The Game Awards annual ceremony. eXputer reviewed its open beta, with Asad Ahmed remarking, “The Finals has the potential to go toe-to-toe with the kings of the arena-shooter genre, but it has a ways to go until it gets to that level.”
