  • It will feature multiplayer elements, but more details are unknown.

2K Games is working on its “first top-rated, F2P” live-service entry. The tidbit was confirmed in a new job listing seeking a lead publishing producer for the announced project. The listing clarifies that it will feature the complete and likely traditional live-service model, a new endeavor for 2K. It is usually renowned for publishing some of the most enticing IPs in the industry, including BioShock, Borderlands, and the WWE 2K series.

This team will create effective and efficient scalable processes and frameworks to enable best in class product management & marketing, coupled with real-time learning and organizational transformation, enabling us to deliver 2K’s first top-rated, F2P, fully live-service game,” reads the listing.

The live-service title could be of AAA scale and come out on multiple platforms. The ad asks the applicants to have “experience with AAA products,” and a passion for multiplayer entries. Additionally, having the know-how to ship games for PCs, consoles, and mobiles is also mentioned for good measure.

2K Games Makes Its Foray Into The Live-Service Genre

Following the thriving trends, the publisher is also stepping into the live service genre. The ad does not clarify whether 2K is working on an existing or a new IP. However, we exclusively reported two years ago that the team was creating a Rocket League competitor named “Gravity Goal.” It is unclear whether these two titles are related, especially because no live-service elements were revealed back then.

The exact details of the upcoming entry by 2K Games are currently unknown. The publisher has not even listed the exact development studio helming the project in the ad, which is quite unexpected. An internal dev team could be brewing it, but we will likely learn more details in the coming months.
