Respawn Begins Hiring For A Third Game In The Star Wars Jedi Series

Respawn Entertainment views the Jedi franchise as a trilogy.

Story Highlights

  • Respawn Entertainment has begun hiring for a third game in the Star Wars Jedi franchise.
  • This game would top off what was planned as a trilogy.
  • Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor were huge successes for EA.

The Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor games from Respawn Entertainment proved to EA that the single-player game genre is here to stay. Both games were huge successes for EA and Respawn, and a third game to top off the planned trilogy may have just started development. Respawn has posted jobs for a new game in the Star Wars Jedi series, indicating that development has begun.

Job posting for the Star Wars Jedi team

One of these job postings is for a principal game writer, a senior-level position that asked for candidates with 8+ years of experience writing AAA title games. Other postings included those for senior VFX artists. This new title is early in development and likely won’t release for a couple of years. Jedi Fallen Order was released in 2019, and Jedi Survivor was released in 2023, so it could be a few years before the third game releases.

The Jedi series was envisioned as a trilogy from the very beginning, with all three games planned before Jedi Fallen Order was released according to Respawn Jedi director Stig Asmussen, who spoke about the trilogy plans with IGN.

“I always wanted to see this as a trilogy. How can we take Cal and the crew to new places beyond what we were doing in the first game?”

Jedi Survivor was greenlit before the release of Fallen Order, and it seems like a third game has already been greenlit. Development of Jedi Survivor was also quick, as the game was in development for only 3 years, a short amount of time compared to most AAA titles. With this timeline in mind, it might not be impossible to see a third game released in 2026 or 2027.

Respawn is currently busy developing 3 different Star Wars games. Their next title is an unannounced single-player FPS that will be inspired by the Jedi Knight series of games from the early 2000s. The next game after that is a strategy game developed with Bitreactor and the third Star Wars game in development is the final game in the Star Wars Jedi trilogy.

It’s a good time to be a Star Wars gaming fan, as multiple Star Wars games are currently in development at multiple different studios. EA’s exclusivity license for Star Wars games expires this year, and multiple studios have already announced their own projects, including projects from Ubisoft, Quantic Dream, Skydance New Media, and more.
