Palworld’s Concurrent Player Count Now The Highest On Steam, Save For One Game

If you gauge paid titles only on Steam, PUBG still reigns supreme.

Story Highlights

  • Palworld has been making waves across the industry soon after its recent release.
  • Trailing just behind PUBG, the game is currently the highest-played on Steam by concurrent users.
  • PUBG has a concurrent player record of 3.2 million from back when it was still a paid game.

So it’s clear to everyone that Palworld has come in like a whirlwind, sending waves across the industry with its “Pokemon meets guns” formula. The game gets a lot of things right—that’s no question at this point—and brings a lot of fun to the table, which is probably why it’s shot up so much in popularity, effectively becoming Steam’s highest concurrently played paid game at the moment.

Pointing out a correction in that post though, as you can comprehend already, some eagle-eyed users reported that the top spot still belongs to another game, which for a certain reason does not show up on the list that Steam has outlined there. Back when PUBG, otherwise called Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds was still a paid title, it clocked a massive concurrent user count of 3.2 million players, as per SteamDB

That said, that peak player count is from 6 years ago, and since then, PUBG has been made free-to-play, so it now sits in an entirely different category of titles on Steam. Palworld, therefore, is the current most-played title on the platform, with about 1.3 million users enjoying themselves at the same time. If this momentum carries on, Palworld has the potential to go huge, like, Fortnite-huge.

But to be honest with you, thoughts surrounding Palworld weren’t of a serious nature back when the Summer Games Fest revealed the third-person shooter. Then, a more in-depth gameplay reveal trailer dropped during the Xbox Tokyo Game Show, and players pretty much dismissed it as a mediocre Pokemon parody. Now that it’s finally out, it’s evident that Pocketpair made Palworld nothing but the real deal.
