Remnant 2 Shining Essence Echo [Location & Uses]

Learn about the location and uses of the Shining Essence Echo in Remnant 2, a usable item for completing quests.

The Remnant 2 Shining Essence Echo is a scarce mid-game item with limited but uniquely helpful uses. Like most in-game items, you can keep the Echo in your inventory for the rest of your playthrough, but I believe it’s a must-have if you’re looking to complete The Custodian’s quest or craft potent accessories for your archetype.

Key Takeaways
  • The Shining Essence Echo is a crafting item in Remnant 2 obtained after killing Tal’Ratha or Tal’Ratha (Metaphysical), located at the Forgotten Prison in N’Erud

Location Of The Shining Essence Echo

The Shining Essence Echo is dropped by Tal’Ratha or Tal’Ratha (Metaphysical), the final boss found inside the Forgotten Prison at the start of N’Erud, one of the mid-game locations in Remnant 2. Both of these are variants of the same boss, but you’ll fight one of them depending on your dialogue choices.

Here’s the path I would recommend following:

  1. Once you enter the chamber just before the Forgotten Prison’s entrance, you can use the microphone to talk to Tal’Ratha.
  2. Upon completing his initial dialogue, proceed further into the area and complete the dungeon to enter The Eon Vault, located beyond the Abyssal Rift and the Hatchery.

  1. Explore this region until you come across an abandoned V-shaped vault, after which you must go inside and follow the narrow pathway to the gate at the end.
  2. Interact with the gate to open it, use the elevator ahead to proceed to the bottom floor, and walk down the hallway to pick up the Soul Spark Cylinder lying on the ground.

  1. With the Soul Spark in possession, you can now access the Prisoner by returning to the aforementioned chamber and unlocking the glass entrance.
  2. After crossing the chamber, you’ll enter the Forgotten Prison and meet Tal’Ratha in an interactive cutscene.
  3. Exhaust his dialogue until you eventually decide whether to sacrifice yourself and let him eat you.
  4. This determines the boss you’ll encounter, as you’ll fight the regular Tal’Ratha if you choose not to get eaten while doing the opposite pits you against his Metaphysical version.

Important: After rerolling and fighting both bosses, I noticed how Tal’Ratha and Tal’Ratha (Metaphysical) have different arenas, movesets, and weaknesses. Nonetheless, you should ideally fight his non-metaphysical version since it’s less hostile and considerably easier to kill.

How To Kill Tal’Ratha

Regardless of the variant you fight, this boss has considerably high damage output with several close-range and long-range attacks.

  1. Since you’re likely fighting the regular Tal’Ratha, you’ll also have to deal with AoE and poison-covered projectiles.
  2. The ideal playstyle is to stay at the boss’s side, remain aggressive, and play at a long-range distance most of the time.
  3. Additionally, I recommend you should just aim at Tal’Ratha’s head and counter his most common attacks with these strategies:
      • Acid Spits: Sprint to the far-left or far-right side while the attack is charging up.
      • Vacuum Bite: Dodge backward when you’re closest to the boss.
      • Lunging Bite: Run backward and dodge to the right when the boss is just near you.
      • Acid Throw: Dodge to either side and stay away from the area where the projectile landed until the effect disappears.
      • Glowing Aerial Projectiles: Shoot all three projectiles in their center and grab their loot once they fall to the ground.
      • Ground Slam: Dodge to either side as the attack hits the ground.
  4. After killing the Tal’Ratha, you’ll receive the Shining Essence Echo alongside the Tome of Knowledge and the Spiced Bile as guaranteed drops.
  5. You’ll also receive several Scraps and Lumenite Crystals, which you can use to upgrade your weapons and other items.

Uses Of The Shining Essence Echo In Remnant 2

The Shining Essence Echo can be used to complete The Custodian NPC’s questline to receive the Siphon Heart. This item, from my testing, is a powerful relic that, on use, transforms roughly 10% of your base damage into Lifesteal for 10 seconds, making it a perfect addition for offense-based classes and playstyles.

    1. Besides that, you can also use the Echo to craft the Void Idol at the Drzyr Replicator, the tube-like entity found near the Custodian.
    2. In my opinion, the Idol is a viable amulet for almost any build, as it increases your Reload Speed by 20% and lets you fully reload your weapon once your magazine goes below 50%.
    3. However, it’s also worth mentioning that you’ll also need 15x Hardened Iron and 1000x Scrap to craft this amulet.
Important: Since you’ll only get 1 Shining Essence Echo per playthrough, you must choose whether to go for the Siphon Heart or craft the Void Idol.

That wraps up my brief guide on Remnant 2’s Shining Essence Echo, covering both its location and uses. But regardless of whether you’re a solo class or a dual archetype, I think getting the rewards from this item will certainly aid you in your playthrough, so why not go the extra step to make the journey worthwhile?
