Palworld Sales Top 4 Million; Selling Rate Is 86,000 Units Per Hour

The game's popularity has skyrocketed out of nowhere in recent times.

Story Highlights

  • Palworld, a brand-new third-person shooter by Japanese developer Pocketpair just got released.
  • The game has shot up in terms of sheer popularity, selling over 4 million units in just 3 days.
  • It’s concurrent player threshold has crossed the 1 million mark as well, signaling sure-fire success.

Following the recently updated announcement of Palworld selling about 3 million copies yesterday, the developers are back with more news on that front, making it official that the third-person shooter has sold another million in recent times, which makes the total sales go well over 4 million. The developer also reports that Palworld’s sales are being clocked at a whopping 86,000 units per hour. Outright surreal.

So, this game pretty much came out of nowhere, honestly. Sure, the Summer Games Fest in 2023 revealed the ambitious title, and then we also got a gameplay trailer at the Tokyo Game Show Xbox event, but like so many others, I also thought that Palworld would be nothing more than a meme. Little did the community know that the title would be incredibly well-executed, with a ton of fun to its name in the name of addictive gameplay.

Things started to look heavy on the third-person shooter’s launch day, when it crossed 370,000 concurrent players on Steam, but fast-forward a day later, Palworld clocked over a million players enjoying themselves at the same time, surpassing many greats, such as Cyberpunk 2077, Counter-Strike 2, and even Dota 2. Now, as things happen to be this way, the title is currently Steam’s top-seller while making the likes of Baldur’s Gate 3 and EA Sports FC 24 trail right behind.

So, what’s really making this game special? In case you missed it, Palworld’s premise is practically “Pokemon with guns,” along with a touch of realism to that universe. The Pokemon-like creatures that run around in the Palworld universe are called Pals, and the game not only lets you battle them and all, but also allows the player to enslave them too. That’s not it—you can also capture other humans and even sell them using the in-game black market. Ethical concerns aside, this is absolutely wild.
