The thing with the Darth Maul Build is that you are most likely going to want to spec into it for aesthetic purposes. It really is not one of those builds that you would take to late-game. Unless of course you are a die-hard Star Wars fan and love the challenge. Regardless, we will look at how to optimize the build so that you can take it as far as possible.

  • A dexterity or strength-based build, like the Samurai Build would work really nicely with the Darth Maul build. This is because the weapon to be used, Twinblade, scales off both attributes. We will also be using an incantation in combination with the blade.
  • But only 12 points in Faith and 10 points in Arcane are required for it so we can focus heavily on stats that will aid us with our melee combat. These will mostly include Strength or Dexterity (can take either the paths), Vigor, and Endurance to make sure we get the edge in battle.

In picking a base starting class, trying to get a good balance between the attributes needed for the blade as well as those needed for the incantation could be challenging. Especially considering the blade requires an 18 dexterity to simply get started. Therefore, there are three possible starting classes that can help out the most. These are the Warrior, Samurai, and Vagabond classes.

  • As for the incantation, the closest base from the mentioned three is yet again Warrior. Samurai and Vagabond are equally far and will be needing a total of 6 points being pumped between Faith and arcane. Warrior will only need 5 additional points.

From all these stats, we can conclude that if you are simply looking to get the Darth Maul to look as early on as possible, Warrior may be the class for you. But if you want to rock the Darth Maul build and take it quite far, then Samurai and Vagabond will take you further. Picking between the two is a matter of preference between a dexterity playstyle or a strength playstyle.

Darth Maul Build Gear

For the Elden Ring Darth Maul build you will be needing three different items.

  • Twinblade: The dual blade weapon itself.
  • Bloodflame Incantation: The incantation required to give it the red flame.
  • Finger Seal: The item needed to combine the blade with the incantation.

We have covered the Twinblade in great detail and you can find out everything about it here: Elden Ring Twinblade Location guide. However, we will again touch on it briefly to guide you completely.

Getting the Twinblade is quite easy. In the middle of Limgrave, you can come across the “Dragon-Burnt Ruins” which hold the blade. Do note that you will be needing your Torrent horse, to jump up into the completely walled ruins.

Right as you leave the tutorial island, you will come across the First Step Site of Grace. Making your way East from there, it is a straight path with no enemies in between. Once you get to the 4-walled ruins, jump up inside. You will see a cellar opening in the ground. Go down and straight, you will come across a chest. Open the chest and you will have the Twinblade.

Two-Handing The Twinblade

If you have been playing Elden Ring, then this is basic knowledge. But in case you are struggling to equip the Twinblade in both hands then this is for you. When you first equip the blade, your character will only hold it in one hand. On Xbox press Y and on PlayStation, press triangle. Then press the two bumpers, the same button for Xbox and PS. This will allow you to hold the blade in two hands.

Twinblade Stats And Requirements

We did touch on the required stats earlier but for the Twinblade, like any other weapon, there are requirement stats. These are 18 in Dexterity and 10 in Strength.

The blade has 119 in physical attack, and it scales in dexterity and strength. Starting off with a D scale initially in both.

Twinblade Moveset

It is a quite straightforward moveset. With multiple slashes and piercing attacks. But perhaps the special move, Spinning Slash, makes it shine. It is a chainable move with the left heavy.

Doing it once will create a strong swing. But if you chain them together, you will be able to thrust forward whilst swinging your blade. It is good for crowd control and when you’re surrounded by enemies. Additionally, you can also use jump attacks, you can thrust downwards to deal a great amount of damage.

But in general, the blade is good for quick-paced attacks, allowing you to even spam them at times. It is because of this that it works nicely with a Dexterity build. Also, Twinblade is the crux of Elden Ring Darth Maul Build.

Bloodflame Incantation

Bloodflame Location
Elden Ring – Rose Church; Bloodflame Location

The exact location for the Bloodflame incantation is at the Rose Church. You may need to get past some of the bosses to reach that area smoothly. If you have beaten Godrick the Grafted then it should be fairly simple to get to the location.

But if you have not defeated Godrick then there is a slight way across. Instead of passing through the gate when you are about to fight him, simply remain slightly North until you reach a broken bridge. Take the path below to the left of the bridge till it takes you to the Liurnia of the Lakes.

You will reach a ridge with the Liurnia Highway South site of grace. From there you will have to make your way down carefully. Once below, you can start heading towards the Rose Church as usual.

The churches around the map are actually quite useful, some contain Sacred Tears. If you are looking to collect all sacred tears from the churches, then consider reading this: Elden Ring Sacred Tear Locations.

Elden Ring Darth Maul Build Teardrop Scarab
Elden Ring – Teardrop Scarab

When there, look for Teardrop Scarabs. They are non-hostile creatures but once you kill them, they will drop the Bloodflame incantation. Do be quick in killing them as they can run away from you with ease.

The incantation requires 10 Arcane and 12 Faith. It will cost 20 FP to use and 10 Stamina. The buff lasts for 60 seconds and causes blood loss on enemies. But most importantly, it gives that red flame needed for the blade to look like a lightsaber.

To equip the incantation, you do have to go to a site of grace and memorize the spell. But to apply it to your blade, you will be needing another item.

Finger Seal

You will need the Finger Seal to combine the incantation with the Twinblade. Head to the Roundtable Hold. You will be able to purchase it from the Twin Maiden Husks. After purchasing it, equip it for use.

Getting Lightsaber Look

Now that you have the Twinblade, Bloodflame incantation, and the Finger Seal, you are ready to combine it all. Do note that although we will be dual-wielding the Twinblade, you will need to have it in one hand initially to combine the Bloodflame incantation.

So, with the blade in one hand and Finger Seal in the other, press the left L1, LB, or RMB which will allow you to apply the Bloodflame incantation. This will finally give you the red flame on your blade which will make it look like the Darth Maul lightsaber.

The Bloodflame blade incantation is actually one of the best incantations in the game. But if you are looking for other incantations to mess around with, then our 10 Best Elden Ring Incantations with locations guide would be a great read.

Darth Maul Build Armor

As mentioned before, the Darth Maul build in Elden Ring’s main focus is getting the Twinblade. But if you want to succeed in battle there are a few armor and Talisman recommendations.

Because you will be double-wielding the Twinblade, having a shield is likely not an option. Therefore, your defense strategy will mostly entail dodging and relying on your armor as a last line of defense. To maximize your chance of successful dodges, make sure to equip an armor set that lets you remain in the light to medium load. Anything above that will make it extremely hard to avoid enemy attacks.

Darth Maul Build Armor
Elden Ring – Land of Reeds Armor Stats

An early game armor that is good for lighter loads is the Land of Reeds armor. It is an overall balanced armor, providing protection against many elemental damages.

Where it does lack, however, is in poise. Poise is the stat that dictates how easy it is for you to get staggered. You can get it from the Isolated Merchant Shack, north of Caelid. But if you started off with the Samurai base class then you should already have Land of Reeds armor.

Elden Ring Darth Maul Build Black Knife Armor
Elden Ring – Black Knife Armor

Additionally, you can also try out the Black Knife armor which is considered one of the best light armors of the game. However, the problem with acquiring that armor is that it is found later on in the game. So you will have to get through a number of bosses before you can get that armor. It can be found in an archway behind Ordina, Liturgical Town in Consecrated Grounds.

But in general, you can mess around with armor as you please. All you have to make sure of is that you remain in the medium load range so you can avoid enemy hits. If you are looking for other armors to try out with the Darth Maul Build, consider reading this article: 10 Best Elden Ring Armor Sets with locations.

Darth Maul Build Talisman

There are three Talismans in particular that can help with the Darth Maul Build.

Radagon’s Soreseal

Not to be mistaken with the Radagon’s Scarseal Talisman. It adds +5 to Vigor, Endurance, Strength, and Dexterity. As the Darth Maul build is a melee weapon build, these attributes are quite important, making it a useful Talisman. You can find the Radagon’s Soreseal in Fort Faroth. However, there is one downfall. It increases all damage taken by 15%. So, although your offense will be greatly increased and you will be able to dodge more easily, your margin of error will decrease.

Green Turtle Talisman

With the Darth Maul Build, you want to be aggressive. But with the aggression comes the stamina cost. To counter that, we have the Green Turtle Talisman that raises stamina recovery speed. You can find it in Summonwater Village. You will be needing a *Stonesword key* to break the seal on the *Imp Statue*.

Erdtree Favor

The Erdtree favor is generally a must-have Talisman. As we will be going in aggressively with the Darth Maul build, having extra HP is always a plus. Not only that but the Erdtree favor increases stamina and Equip Load. These increased stats will allow you to remain aggressive and also put on heavier armor for better defense. You can find Erdtree Favor in Fringefold Hero’s Grave. You will be needing two Stonesword Keys to get inside.

Those are some of the Talismans that could work well with the Darth Maul build. Of course, feel free to experiment on your own. But if you are looking for a list of the best Talismans to experiment with, consider reading this: 10 Best Elden Ring Talismans with Locations.

Elden Ring Darth Maul Build Playstyle

You need to be quite smart with how you play with the Darth Maul build. As mentioned, many times, you are double-wielding the Twinblade which leaves your defense open. Therefore, you need to be quick on your feet and time your dodges correctly to avoid taking any damage. This means that as you progress in the game, you will need to invest more points into your endurance.

Doing so will allow you to handle heavier armor and also give enough I-frames (invincibility frames) whilst dodging. Additionally, you can try your luck with parrying. If you want to get better at parrying, then here is how to perfect the parry in Elden Ring

Furthermore, you need to be aggressive. Melee is your friend here so go in with your blade and do enough damage. Another reason why you need to be aggressive is due to the blood loss build-up of the Bloodflame Incantation. The build-up is essentially a bar that gets filled the more you attack your enemy with bleed effect weapons.

However, you cannot simply attack an enemy, wait a couple of seconds, then attack again to build up the bar. The bar depletes over time, so you need to really get in there and land a couple of strikes to get the effect. Sometimes, this can also mean that you have to trade blows to get in those land strikes for the bleed effect. Therefore, investing points in your Vigor is a good idea as you progress with the Darth Maul build.

Another thing that you need to look out for is crowds of enemies. As you do not have a shield, getting surrounded and stuck in a mob of enemies is the last thing you’d want. Therefore, before going in with your blade, analyze the situation carefully and pick off enemies one by one.

Wrap Up

With that, you’re ready to become Darth Maul and bring your terror upon enemies of Elden Ring. Good luck with your Elden Ring Darth Maul build May the force be with you!
