Elden Ring: How to Beat Mohg [Cheese Method]

Fighting Mohg without the Elden Ring Mohg Cheese could be quite difficult. The previous known method was patched. Read for the new method.

Elden Ring has a plethora of bosses, and each boss is unique with their deadly attacks. Still, all are capable of making gamers frustrated as they struggle to defeat them. Mohg, The Lord of Blood is no different as gamers have struggled to beat him. With his annoying move set like the red rings and dark wings to aid him in flight, beating him can be quite the challenge. However, the painstakingly difficult fight will become child’s play with the Elden Ring Mohg, Lord of Blood Cheese that is about to be discussed.

Key Highlights:

  • Use Mohg Shackle 3 times before the fog wall to bind Mohg in one position and then attack him simultaneously until he’s defeated. Do keep count of your attacks as if Mohg gets staggered, he will break free.
  • In case Mohg breaks free of his shackles, use long ranged weapons to deal damage from afar. You can also use long ranged incantations or spells like Comet azur.
  • If you want to attack continuously, use Scarlet Rot incantation to deal damage without staggering the Mohg.
  • If you want to face Mohg like a warrior, you have to stack the Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears as much as you can.
  • Mixing the Crystal Tear and Flask of Wondrous Pysick at any site of grace will negate the curse effect and heavy damage that Mohg Inflicts.
  • If you are using a Melee build like Vampire Build or Greatsword Build, you can utilize Mimic Summon to have a good chance against Mohg.

Mohg, Lord of Blood Cheese Method In Elden Ring

Elden Ring – Mohg Cheese Gamepaly

Unlike some other annoying bosses such as the Godskin Duo or the Fire Giant, Mohg is an optional boss. However, he can be put in the same leagues as Radahn in terms of difficulty. The fight with Mohg takes place in the Mohgwyn Palace. The exact location and how to get to him are discussed in a later section. While you’re at it, why not read our Elden Ring Bosses Tier List and learn about the toughest bosses in the game.

There used to be a Cheese before the patch where one could get into the arena from the side of the fog wall, leaving Mohg frozen in one spot. That would allow you to simply hit him as many times as needed to kill him. However, since Patch 1.03, it does not work. But there is a new cheese method now.

Once you do get to him, there are a few things you need to do, and you will also be needing an item, Mohg’s Shackle, which can help you finish the fight in a flash. On the subject of items in the game, read our Elden Ring Item Tier List.

Mohg’s Shackle Location

For the Elden Ring Mohg Cheese, you will need Mohg’s shackle to tie him down. You can easily get to the shackles from the Leyndell Catacombs Site of Grace in the Subterranean Shunning Grounds. These grounds are known to have a Rune arc as well as a Stonesword key that you can use on Imp Statues.

There is also another boss on these grounds called the Mohg, the omen. However, that is not the boss we are focused on, and neither does the cheese that is about to be discussed work on him.

Regardless, once you reach Leyndell Catacombs Site of Grace, take the steps going upstairs and head left into the sewers. There will be two lobsters guarding the item, but you can run across them to the right. Mohg’s shackle will be on the floor, and you can pick it up easily.

Using the Mohg’s Shackle

Elden Ring – Using Mohg’s Shackle

Once you have Mohg’s Shackle, it is quite simple from here onwards. Head back to where you fought Mohg and stand next to the fogged wall. If you are fighting Mohg for the very first time, then the fog wall will not appear. So simply die to him once, shamefully, and then the wall will appear, allowing you to perform the cheese.

When you’re next to the fogged wall, use the Mohg’s Shackle three times at the edge of the wall. Doing so should bind Mohg in one position.

When you go through the fogged wall, you will see Mohg, Lord of Blood, just standing in one position. You can approach him, and he will not attack you; he will remain in the same position. From here onwards, it is a simple matter of attacking him till his health depletes.

However, be careful if you are striking him with melee weapons as he can get staggered. Once that happens, he will break free, and the cheese will not work. Therefore, when you attack him, do keep count of the strikes and pause if he’s about to be staggered. While you’re at it, also read our Elden Ring best weapons guide.

Additionally, there are cases where he might break free from the chains if you get too close to him. For that, what you can do is resort to using ranged weapons to deal damage from afar, avoiding the risk of ruining the cheese.

Additionally, you can rely on long-ranged spells or incantations like comet azur. If you want to attack continuously, then players have reported that the Rotten Breath incantation works well in attacking him without the risk of stagger. While you’re at it why not read our Elden Ring Spells Tier List.

With that, you now know the Elden Ring Mohg Cheese.

Alternate Methods

Elden Ring – Mohg Lord of Blood Gameplay

Suppose you are looking to fight Mohg but do not want to exploit him completely by freezing him using the Elden Ring Mohg Cheese. In that case, there are other alternative methods you can use to have a better chance.

First and foremost, make sure you have as much healing as possible. That is because he is prone to using his red rings to engulf the player and pretty much steal their health to recover his own. Therefore, stack up on Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears as much as you can so that you can deal with that attack of his.

If you want to avoid his ring attack, then you will need a potion that can be made using the Purifying Crystal Tear. To get it, you need to fight the invader Eleonora, Violet Bloody Finger, at the Second Church of Marika. Eleonora is the same invader that drops Eleonora’s Poleblade, which is similar to the twinblades in Elden Ring. It can be quite useful if you happen to be trying to get the Darth maul build. The crystal tear can be mixed with the Flask of Wondrous Physick at any site of grace. Now you will be able to use it to negate the curse effect and avoid the heavy damage that Mohg inflicts.

If you’re rocking a melee build like the greatsword build or vampire build, then fighting him would be quite difficult on your own. But by utilizing summons like Mimic Summon, which is considered as one of the best Ashen Remains of the game, you can have a good chance.

But by far, some of the best builds that have the greatest chance against Mohg are the builds that utilize spells as Astrologer build, and especially the Comet Azur build. As Mohg is approaching you, you can use the Comet Azur to deal a lot of damage to him. Considering the time he takes to approach you initially, you should be able to take a substantial chunk off his health.

Mohg, Lord of Blood Location In Elden Ring

If you have not reached Mohg yet and need guidance on getting to his location, then this part is for you. As Mohg is an optional boss, you can avoid him till you’ve equipped yourself well. Regardless of when you go to fight Mohg, Lord of Blood, there are two methods of reaching him. Either you can take the portal towards Mohhwyn Palace, or you can invade 3 players, which will give you direct access.

Portal Method

Mohgwyn Palace Portal for Elden Ring Mohg Cheese
Elden Ring – Mohgwyn Palace Portal Location

The portal that leads to the Mohgwyn Palace is located in the Consecrated Snowfield. As shown in the image, the portal is on a western ridge of the foggy snowfield. Suppose you do not have Consecrated Snowfield unlocked. In that case, you can do so by using the Haligtree Secret Medallion at the Grand Lift of Rold in Leyndell, Royal Capitol. The right half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion can be found in the Village of the Albinaurics. The left half is in Castle Sol.

You’ll know you’re on the right path if you get invaded by the Sanguine Noble. But once you go ahead, you will be able to spot the portal, which should be covered in blood. Going through it will teleport you to a cave. If you continue to make your way through it, you will be led to the Mohgwyn Palace.

Once you make your way out of the cave, head left till you find the first site of grace. From there onwards, you want to make your way forward into a bloody lake. Make sure you have your Torrent Horse, with you as you will need to avoid enemies while going past. You’ll eventually reach the Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum.

Over there, a corpse will have the map fragment to unblur your map. From there, head left and up the stairs and continue to follow the path. There will be a gore pile that you can get past by jumping across. Eventually, you will be led inside yet another cave. Continue till you make your way out and, on your right, will be an elevator which should lead you to the boss fight.

White-Faced Varre Questline

Elden Ring – White Faced Varre

The White-Faced Varre Questline is perhaps the faster method of reaching Mohg, The Lord of Blood. You first meet this NPC at the First Step Site of grace right at the start of the game. But after you defeat Godrick, he changes his location. In case you have beaten Godrick and are wondering how to activate his great rune, consider reading: Elden Ring Godrick’s Great Rune Location and Activation

After the Godrick fight, you will get to visit the Roundtable Hold. Once you do that, White-Faced Varre will be found at the Rose Church, southwest of Liurnia. When you meet him there, he will award you with the Festering Bloody Finger. You can use it to invade players.

Do that three times, and Varre will ask you to join his order with the Bloody Lord. If you agree, you will be given the Lord of Blood’s Favor item that you need to “soak in the blood of a maiden.” That can be done through the corpse found in the Church of Inhibition.

Finally, you will be given the Bloody Finger after completing all those steps. When you show it to Varre, he will award you with the Pureblood Knight’s Medal that will take you to Mohgwyn’s Palace.

Summary

With the Elden Ring Mohg cheese, the boss fight should become a lot easier. You practically get to skip all the fighting and his terrible second phase with dark wings. You also won’t have to worry about his red rings that suck away your health. But if you do not want to break his character completely, then there are alternate methods that you can employ as well.

Overall, it is a great fight where you do get a great rune and 420,000 Runes. The Runes are not as effective considering the many farming methods that are out there. However, it is still good to level up your character, especially if you use the cheese on Mohg early in the game.
