Types Of Bosses In Elden Ring
You will encounter many types of bosses in Elden Ring that you will have to beat in order and some might be mandatory while others will be optional. I recommend you take on the bosses in Elden Ring in the order of difficulty. Before knowing the order you should be aware of the types of bosses you will face in Elden Ring.
- Field Bosses– They will be in The Lands Between and are optional. Additionally, they are known as the easiest bosses in the game.
- Greater Enemies Bosses– They will be found protecting and guarding the most powerful and important items and areas in Elden Ring. They are stronger than the field bosses and deal more damage to the Tarnished
- Legends, Lords, And Demigods– the main bosses of Elden Ring notorious for being the hardest to defeat and are mandatory for the main quest are the Legends, Lords, And Demigods. When defeated they will grant the players a Remembrance and with the Shards of the Elden Ring. They are also called the Shard Bearers.

Elden Ring Boss Order
Elden Ring is filled with bosses, so some players can get a bit confused about which boss should they tackle first in this huge, unforgiving world. Majorly my focus will be on the major/Legend bosses and inform you of which Great Enemies or Enemy bosses you should focus on next before taking on the next Legend boss.
There are numerous optional bosses in the game as well, but this guide covers all the bosses so players can get the most out of their experience.
There is a lot to cover but before I continue, consider reading our Elden Ring best builds Tier List. These builds can help you in this unforgiving journey.
Grafted Scion
The very first boss in this guide for Elden Ring is the Grafted Scion. The Grafted Scion is the first boss of Elden Ring. Don’t feel bad for dying to this boss because you were supposed to die while fighting the Grafted Scion anyway. Once you die here, then the actual journey begins.
You can later return to the area to challenge the Scion by taking the Imbued Sword key to the third-highest of the Four Belfries.
Soldier Of Godrick
Soldier of Godrick is quite easily the easiest boss in Elden Ring. Players will encounter this boss in the tutorial area. The Soldier of Godrick becomes a common enemy after you proceed a little in the game so get used to fighting him.
After you have defeated the Soldier of Godrick, start exploring a bit and switch your attention to these optional bosses first before you take on the next main boss.
Demi-Human Chiefs
The Demi-Human Chiefs are located in the Coastal Cave. It was located west of The First Step Site of Grace. The boss itself is a little challenging but can players can easily overcome it by using Spirit Ashes.
Beastman Of Farum Azula
The Beastman of Farum Azula can be found past the wolves in the Groveside Cave. This boss has low poise, so focus on heavy attacks and jump attacks to stagger it quickly. Beastman of Farum Azula can also be parried.
Burial Tree Watchdogs
The boss is located in the Stormfoot Catacombs. The attacks of Burial Tree watchdogs are easy to see through, and the boss is manageable. Players only need to time their dodges and attack when they see an opening.
Stone Digger Troll
The Stone Digger Troll may look intimidating but is very much manageable. This boss is located in the Limgrave Tunnel. Stone Digger Troll certainly hits hard, so focus on dodging. If you have a magic build, then stay out of his range altogether and use spells from afar.
Grave Warden Duelist
The boss is located in the Murkwater Catacomb filled with Imps. His attacks can easily be blocked with a shield so focus on counterattacks. Grave Warden Duelist boss fight can become a piece of cake if you decide to use Spirit Summons.
Patches
Patches is a fan-favorite character who has made an appearance in almost every recent From Software game. The boss itself is not hard. In fact, he surrenders after you deal enough damage. He is located in the Murkwater Caves.
Guardian Golem
The Guardian Golem is an intimidating-looking boss but is surprisingly very easy. You only need to focus your heavy attacks on his feet. The glowing spot is the weak point. The Guardian Golem can very easily be staggered. Once the boss is staggered, then perform a critical hit on the chest. The boss is located in the Highroad Cave.
Black Knife Assassin
Keep your guard up whenever you are face to face with a Black Knife Assassin. They are quick and agile. Be patient and attack at the right moment when you see an opening. Their attacks can also be blocked with ease. This boss is located in the Deathtouched Catacombs.
Night’s Cavalry
The Night’s Cavalry is located on the Highway Bridge. You may be confused when you pass by there during the day and don’t see the boss. That’s because the boss is only there during the knight. The boss itself is manageable, but using a trusty spectral steed is recommended while fighting the Night’s Cavalry.
Mad Pumpkin Head
Located in the Waypoint Ruins. The Mad Pumpkin Head guards the room where Sorceress Sellen is located. The boss itself is pretty aggressive, so take your time and do not get greedy.
Tibia Mariner
Tibia Mariner will be the first boss you will see on a boat. The mariner will let you hit it a few times before it runs away. The boss itself is very manageable. Mariner will also summon reinforcements, so using Torrent and focusing solely on the Mariner is suggested.
Bloodhound Knight Darriwil
The Bloodhound Knight Darriwil is found inside the Forlorn Hound Evergaol. He is quick and aggressive, and he hits hard. Focus on dodging, and attack when you see an opening. Fortunately, you can summon a friend if you have been following along with Blaidd’s Quest.
Tree Sentinel
It is time for the boss that killed most players when they approached it the very first time. The Tree Sentinel is a tougher version of the Night’s Cavalry. He is a formidable opponent in the early game.
Crucible Knight
The Crucible Knight is another formidable opponent in the early game. This boss awaits you in the Stormhill Evergaol. The Crucible Knight hits hard and has a huge catalog of moves that he can perform on the player. Firstly, start focusing on dodging and getting used to his move set. Attack when you see an opening.
Flying Dragon Agheel
It is time for you to encounter your very first dragon in Elden Ring. You can use Torrent in the boss fight. Agheel powerful attacks can be avoided easily as long as you are on horseback. Agheel makes a surprise appearance as you are exploring Agheel Lake.
Bell Bearing Hunter
The Bell Bearing Hunter is a powerful opponent who appears at the Warmaster’s Shack when you approach it at night. Be wary of his sword because this boss can control it with his mind and hit you from afar. If you are a magic user, then the Bell Bearing Hunter should be more manageable for you.
Deathbird
The Deathbird has an unpredictable move set and can give trouble to a lot of players. For the terrifying boss, stay on horseback. The Deathbird makes an appearance when you explore the giant-infested area located southeast of the Warmaster’s Shack.
Ulcerated Tree Spirit
I consider the Ulcerated Tree Spirit as one of the hardest bosses in Limgrave. The move set of this boss is hard to predict, and it hits hard. These are two deadly combinations. The boss is located in the Fringefolk Hero’s Grave. Located right next to the first Site of Grace you come across in the game. The Ulcerated Tree Spirit makes multiple appearances throughout the game but not with traditional boss health.
The area also holds one of the best talismans in Elden Ring. In case you are interested, consider reading our Elden Ring Best Talisman guide.
Margit, The Fell Omen
Once done with the Grafted Scion, the very first story boss suggested for this guide is Margit, The Fell Omen. This boss can easily be considered as the hardest early game boss designed by From Software.
Margit has an unpredictable move set with follow-up attacks. You won’t be able to enter Stormveil Castle without defeating Margit. After defeating this unique boss, consider shifting your attention to these mini-bosses before you take on the Demi-God.
Burial Tree Watchdog
Elden Ring reuses some bosses throughout the game. Burial Tree Watchdogs is one of them. The boss makes its second appearance in the far east of the Weeping Peninsula in the Impaler’s Catacombs.
Runebear
The Runebear is located in the Earthbore Cave. This boss has the same move set as every other Runebear in Mistwoods. These bears are formidable opponents, so caution is always advised whenever you fight one of them.
Night’s Cavalry
Night Cavalry makes its second appearance when you approach Castle Morne at night. He has the same move set as the Night Cavalry you fought previously.
Cemetery Shade
The Cemetry Shade is one of the annoying bosses on the list. The boss has low health, so finish it off as soon as possible. But the Cemetry Shade is capable of turning into a shadowy mist at will, so it is hard to pin it down. The Cemetry Shade is located in the Tombsward Catacombs.
Deathbird
The Deathbird makes its second appearance at the west of where you fought the second Night’s Cavalry. The boss has the same move set as the first Deathbird.
Erdtree Avatar
Erdtree Avatars are the guardians of Minor Erdtrees found across the Lands Between. Use spirit ashes to distract the boss and attack when you see an opening. The Erdtree Avatar is easy to manage. Get used to fighting this boss because it is going to make multiple appearances throughout the game.
Miranda The Blighted Bloom
This boss is a giant poisonous flower that also knows magic. Miranda The Blighted Bloom is located in Tombsward Cave. It is weak to fire, so I recommend using fire incantations or even a simple torch will help you while fighting Miranda The Blighted Bloom.
Scaly Misbegotten
Scaly Misbegotten becomes a normal enemy as you progress in the game. The enemy hits hard and delays its strikes; therefore, don’t be fooled into rolling early when he gets ready to swing his ax. The Scaly Misbegotten is located in Morne Tunnel.
Ancient Hero of Zamoor
The Ancient Hero of Zamoor is located in the Weeping Evergaol. Use fire attacks against it if you have them. And keep an et=ye out for its ice attacks.
Leonine Misbegotten
Leonine Misbegotten is the boss of Castle Morne. Some players consider this boss the hardest enemy in Weeping Peninsula because of its aggressive move set.
Crucible Knight
Now that you are done with your detour after defeating Margit. It is time for you to enter Stormveil Castle. And the first mini-boss that awaits you in the castle is a reused boss.
Yes, the Crucible Knight makes his second appearance in a hidden area just after the Rampart Site of Grace. You have to jump off the edge to the left after defeating the three birds with exploding barrels.
Godrick The Grafted
Godrick is the second major Elden Ring story boss that players should face in their journey. Godrick is also the first Demi-God many Tarnished warriors will face in their journey. Godrick is also the weakest Demi-God and the main boss of Limgrave.
In the first phase, he performs aggressive attacks with his ax, and in the second phase, he gets a Dragons Head to experiment around with.
After defeating the boss, if you have been following along with the guide, then you have defeated every single boss in Limgrave, and now it is time for you to move on to Liurnia of the Lakes.
Now consider shifting your attention to these mini-bosses to level up further before you take on the next Legend.
Cleanrot Knight
The Cleanrot Knight is found in the Stillwater Cave. You have to fight your opponent in an arena flooded with poisonous water so try to end this fight as soon as possible if you wish to survive.
Adan, Thief Of Fire
Adan, Thief of Fire, is located in the Malefactor’s Evergaol. The boss is pretty manageable because of the boss’s low health and mouse, but his flail hits hard, so watch out for that.
Tibia Mariner
The boat boss makes its second appearance. Players will encounter the Tibia Mariner several times in their journey. This boss is located in the East of Liurnia and south of Carian Study Hall.
Night Cavalry
Night cavalry is back once again. There are two Night Cavalry bosses in Liurnia of the Lakes. One is located on the Gate Town Bridge, while the other is wandering in the Bellum Highway Forest.
Godskin Noble
Godskin Noble is a dangerous foe who loves to throw fireballs at you. You won’t be able to access the boss until you have progressed quite a bit in Ranni’s questline. But once you have obtained the item required to invert the Study Hall, then you have to reach the “top” of the tower to fight Godskin Noble.
Deathbird
Deathbird and Night Cavalry are the recurring night-time bosses in Elden Ring. This boss is located on the Scenic Isle. After fighting with the Deathbird twice, you should be familiar with its move set by now.
Bloodhound Knight
The Bloodhound Knight is located in the Lakeside Crystal Cave. The boss has the same move set as Bloodhound Knight Darriwal from Limgrave. Bloodhound Knight can be staggered quickly with heavy attacks.
Glintstone Dragon Smarag
It is time to take on your second Dragon in Elden Ring. Unlike the previous dragon, Glintstone Dragon Smarag breaths blue fire and can perform Glintstone magic. It is located in the Temple Quarters.
This Dragon also guards the Glintstone Key that you will need to enter the Academy of Raya Lucaria.
Death Rite Bird
The Death Rite Bird only appears during nighttime. It is a formidable opponent. Its AoE Black Flame attacks pack a serious punch. The boss is located in Gate Town North.
Crystalians
The Crystilians have high resistance against almost every attack type in Elden Ring. But their resistance drops significantly once you land a critical hit after staggering the boss. So, use this weapon with high stagger damage. The Crystalians are located in the Academy Crystal Cave.
Ring Blade Crystalian
It is the same type of boss as the Crystalians but with a different weapon. The strategy remains the same. The Ring Blade Crystalian is located in the Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel.
Bell Bearing Hunter
The Bell Bearing Hunter returns with his magical sword. The strategy remains the same as before. This boss is located in the Church of Vows at night.
Erdtree Avatar
Just like the Night Cavalry, there are two Erdtree Avatars in the region of Liurnia of the Lakes. One is in the East Minor Erdtree, while the other guards the West Minor Erdtree.
Cemetery Shade and Black Knife Assassin
The Black Knife Catacombs has two separate boss fights. The Cemetry Shade and the Black Knife Assassin. You have already faced both of these bosses in Limgrave.
Royal Revenant
The Royal Revenant is one of the most hated bosses by the Elden Ring community. To make matters worse, The Royal Revenant is a recurring enemy in the late game. But as long combos of powerful attacks.
The Royal Revenant does have one weakness that you can use to your advantage. If you use AoE heal in its vicinity, it deals massive damage to the boss and stuns it. The Royal Revenant boss is located in the Kingsrealm Ruins Underground.
Bols, Carian Knight
Bols, Carian Knight, is located in the Cuckoo’s Evergaol. My advice to players facing this boss is to time your rolls to dodge both his magical daggers and strikes.
Spirit-Caller Snail
The Spirit-Caller is an intriguing boss located in the Road’ End Catacombs, behind a series of illusionary walls. This boss remains invisible for most of the fight and summons spirit to fight the player.
After players defeat the spirit, the snail becomes visible, allowing players to damage it.
OmenKiller
The Omenkiller is found in the Village of The Albinaurics. Some players may be a little familiarised with the Omenkiller move set. It’s because the Omenkiller has a similar move set as the Capra Demon from the original Dark Souls 1.
Royal Knight Loretta
Royal Knight Loretta is the Tree Sentinel but with the ability to perform magic. Making her a dangerous opponent. She is located in Caria Manor, far north of Liurnia.
Glintstone Dragon Adula
It is time to face your 3rd Dragon. You will encounter this boss only a few moments after defeating Royal Knight Loretta. Adula’s move set is similar to Smarags’s move set. But Adula will disappear for good once you deal enough damage to it.
Ancestor Spirit
After fighting the Glintstone Dragon Adula, there is a high chance that you started Ranni’s Quest. Not it is time for you to make a detour to the Siofra River to progress in the quest. Here you will find the Ancestor Spirit. It is a manageable boss, and you should not have much trouble with it.
Dragonkin Soldier
While you are in Siofra River, also consider taking on the Dragonkin Soldier. The boss is aggressive but manageable as long as you time your rolls.
Alabaster Lord
The Alabaster Lord is found in the Royal Grave Evergaol. This boss can use magic, so stay close to it, and watch out for its close-range attacks. Do not underestimate the Alabaster Lord.
Magma Wyrm Makar
If you do not wish to enter the Altus Plateau using the Grand Lift of Dectus, then you will need to go through the Magma Wyrm Makar. The boss is located in the Ruin-Strewn Precipice. But after defeating the Magma Wyrm, do not travel to the Altus Plateau just yet. You still need to tie up some loose ends in Liurnia of the Lakes.
Red Wolf Of Radagon
The Red Wolf Radagon is one of the main bosses in the Academy of Raya Lucaria. You can not reach Rennala without defeating the Red Wolf. The Red Wolf of Radagon is quick, agile, and can perform sorceries. This makes it a dangerous opponent.
Stay patient while fighting the Red Wolf of Radagon and do not rush your attacks. Only attack when you see an opening.
Rennala, Queen Of The Full Moon
Rennala herself is not a Demi-God, but she is a holder of the Great Ruin, making her one of the main bosses in Elden Ring. The first phase of this boss fight is incredibly easy. The real fight begins in the second phase.
In the second phase, Rennala gets a whole new list of spells to use against the Tarnished warrior. The boss also gains the ability to summon powerful Spirit Ashes.
Once you defeat Rennala, instead of venturing off to the Altus Plateau, explore the region of Caelid first because if you decide to explore Caelid after Altus Plateau, then that would make you over-leveled, and exploring the region of Caelid would not be as exciting.
Magma Wyrm
The Magma Wyrm makes his second appearance in Gael Tunnel. The simple trick for defeating the boss is to be patient while attacking and not run into its lava. Fight this cave boss as soon as you enter Caelid in Elden Ring.
Erdtree Avatar
The Erdtree Avatar returns once again and can be found defending the West Minor Tree. This boss hits harder than the other Erdtree avatars, so focus on dodging more.
Erdtree Burial Watchdogs x2
You have already fought a Burial Watchdog in Limgrave. Now it is time to fight two of them in the Minor Erdtree Catacombs. We would recommend using Spirit Ashes to distract one Burial Watchdog while you take on the second one.
Mad Pumpkin x2
Similar to the previous boss. Players will have to fight two Mad Pumpkins at once in the Caelem Ruins Underground. The Mad Pumpkins are aggressive so keep your distance from one while you take on the other.
Frenzied Dualist
Frenzied Dualists can be found in the Gaol Cave. The tough part of the fight is to get to him. Unlock all jail cells, find the cell with the wooden plank, and cut through the plank to reach the Frenzied Dualist.
Cemetery Shade
The Cemetery Shade makes its third appearance in the Caelid Catacombs, but the strategy for defeating it remains the same.
Decaying Ekzykes
It is time to fight another dragon. The Decaying Ekzykes may seem bigger and scarier than others. That’s because it is. This dragon breathes Scarlet Rot. The decaying Ekzykes is a dangerous foe so keep your distance.
Night Cavalry
Similar to Liurnia of the Lakes. There are two Night Cavalry in the region of Caelid. You better get used to fighting the boss now. One is on the Caelid Highway South, while the other is on the Lenne’s Rise Bridge.
Death Rite Bird
The Death Rite Bird returns. It can be found between Aeonia Swamp and Redmane Castle at night time.
Commander O’Neil
Commander O’Neil hides deep within the Aeonia Swamp. The boss itself is very manageable. His attacks are easy to see through, but this boss does summon reinforcements, so take them out on horseback.
Falling Star Beast
Some players may have PTSD from the Sellia Crystal Tunnel because it is the place where players first entered the region of Caelid. The falling Star Beast resides in Sellia Crystal Tunnel.
Nox Swordstress and Nox Priest
In this boss fight, you have to fight two opponents at once. These opponents hit hard, but they have low health. You challenge these boss fights, and you have to travel to the Chair-Crypt of Sellia.
Cleanrot Knight x2
Cleanrot Knights are found in the Abandoned Cave. Initially, you have to fight one knight before a second joins. As long as players do not get careless in the fight, they should be fine.
Battlemage Hugues
The Battlemage Hugues is a sorcerer who can perform some powerful sorceries. Use heavy attacks to interrupt his magic. This boss can be found in Sellia Evergaol.
Crystalians x3
You fought two Crystallins at once in Liurnia. Now it is time to fight the three of them. The boss is found in Sellia Hideaway.
Godskin Apostle
The Godskin Apostle is found at the base of the Divine Tower of Caelid. We would recommend using Bleed against this boss.
Bell Bearing Hunter
The Bell Bearing Hunter may remind some players of the Pursuer from Dark Souls 2. You already know how to defeat the boss. The Bell Bearing Hunter appears in the Isolated Merchant Shack at night.
Putrid Avatar
At first glance, players may think that it is another Erdtree Avatar. Putrid Avatar does have the same move set, but what makes it more deadly is that it can inflict Scarlet Rot on the player. The Putrid Avatar is found defending the East Minor Erdtree.
Beastman of Farum Azula x2
You fought the Beastman of Farum Azula once in Limgrave. Now it is time to fight the two of them in the Dragonbarrow Cave. You can use Spirit Ashes in this fight.
Misbegotten Warrior& Crucible Knight
One thing to note is that you can only access the boss before or after the Radahn festival. The location of this boss fight is the Redmane Castle. Initially, you will fight the Misbegotten Warrior after you have depleted half of its health. The Crucible Knight will join the fight.
Starscourge Radahn
It is time for your next challenge. Get ready to take on the mightiest Demi-God. The Starscourge Radahn is a formidable opponent. When you fight this Demi-God, he is far away from his prime but still gives the player a rush of adrenaline they will never forget.
Radahn is a very aggressive boss who hits hard. These are two deadly combinations. Fortunately, the game lets you summon as many NPCs as you want in the boss fight, so you can use that to your advantage if you do not wish to fight Radahn solo.
Radahn is a side boss but I have added him to the Elden Ring major boss order list because players can not unlock a huge chunk of the game without defeating him. Once you have defeated the Conqueror of the Stars, it may be tempting to go to Altus Plateau now, but try to make a detour first to complete Ranni’s Quest.
Now consider taking on some of these bosses before you decide to face the next Legend.
Dragonkin Soldier Of Nokstella
As you explore Nokstella, you are bound to come across the Dragonkin Soldier of Nokstella. This aggressive boss can end you in a few hits if you are not careful. Stay under its legs if you can, and do not try to attack its hollow stomach.
Mimic Tear
The Mimic Tear is found in the upper level of the Siofra River as you progress in Ranni’s Quest. The easiest way to defeat the boss is to ditch your armor and weapons when you enter the arena. Then reequip them when the boss fight begins.
Regal Ancestor Spirit
The Regal Ancestor Spirit is a stronger version of the Ancestor Spirit but similar to its predecessor, and it is a very beautiful boss fight. This boss can heal itself, and it is a battle of endurance, so do not rush and take your time when fighting the Regal Ancestor Spirit.
The Regal Ancestor Spirit is optional but it is considered as one of the “Legend” bosses.
Dragonkin Soldier
The Dragonkin Soldier makes its second appearance in the nightmarish Lake of Rot. Be very careful when you face the boss because of one wrong move, and you will get the Scarlet Rot.
Putrid Tree Spirit
The Putrid Tree Spirit makes its second appearance in the Grand Cloister. We would advise killing every Kindred of Rot in the area before taking on this boss.
Astel, Naturalborn Of The Void
This boss looks like a secret final boss straight out of Bloodborne. Astel is a very powerful secret boss. It has multiple AoE attacks and a grab attack that can one-shot you. You need to fight this boss aggressively, and you will run out of resources quickly if you do not.
After fighting this boss, there is only one more push left to complete Ranni’s Quest then you can venture off to the Altus Plateau.
Glintstone Dragon Adula
Glintstone Dragon Adula returns to take on the Tarnish one last time. The dragon appears outside the Cathedral of Manus Celes. After defeating this boss, enter the Church to complete Ranni’s Questline.
Now it is time for you to continue your journey to become Elden Lord by venturing off the Altus Plateau but consider fighting Alecto as well since you are in the area.
Alecto, Black Knife Ringleader
Alecto is one of the toughest Black Knife Assassins you will face in your journey. This boss is located in the Ringleader Evergaol in the Moonlight Altar.
Ancient Dragon Lansseax
Finally made it to the Altus Plateau through the Ruin-Strewn Precipice. The first boss to appear before you are a white dragon. After you deplete one-third of its health, the dragon will disappear. If you want a rematch, simply head south of the Rampartside Path Site of Grace.
Now before you head toward the city of Leyndall to challenge the next Demi-God, consider shifting your attention to some of these optional bosses.
Godefroy The Grafted
Godefroy the Grafted is found within the Golden Lineage Evergaol. He has the same move set as Godrick. One thing to love about this boss is to realize just how much you have improved in Elden Ring since you last fought Godrick.
Misbegotten Warrior & Perfumer Tricia
This duo is found in the Unsightly catacombs. Tricia takes on a supporting role, so you can ignore Tricia for most of the fight and focus solely on the Misbegotten Warrior.
Demi-Human Queen Gilika
Found in the Lux Ruins. Queen Gilika is an aggressive but manageable boss. The trick to beating this boss is to not get greedy. Dodge when you have to.
Tibia Mariner
The boat boss returns once again to give you free runes. This one is stronger than the Limgrave variant, but you should be fine as long as you are quick. Tibia Mariner is found in Wyndham Ruins.
Night’s Cavalry
You have fought so many Night Cavalry at this point; what’s one more. It is found at night on the Altus Highway.
Necromancer Garris & Black Knife Assassin
These bosses are found in the Sage’s Cave. You do not have to face them together. The path splits at the end of the cave. The left side leads to the Necromancer Garris, while the right side leads to the Black Knife Assassin.
There is one other Black Knife Assassin in Altus Plateau. The second Black Knife assassin resides in the Sainted Hero’s Grave Entrance.
Erdtree Burial Watchdog
Erdtree Burial Watchdog makes another appearance in the Wyndham Catacombs. Nothing new to say about this boss.
Stonedigger Troll
A stronger version of Stonedigger Troll from Limgrave resides in the Old Altus Tunnel, but its move set remains the same. Watch out for its heavy attacks.
Elemer Of The Briar
Fighting Elemer of The Briar is not required to progress in your journey to becoming Elden Lord. But making a detour and fighting this boss in the Shaded Castle is still recommended.
The Elemer Of The Briar is a stronger version of the Bell Bearing Hunter. This boss has the same deadly telekinetic sword and deadly moves to use against the player.
Take on the Elemer Of the Briar because it has its own legacy dungeon, and missing it would be a waste, and defeating Elemer Of The Briar rewards the players with an achievement.
Sanguine Noble
Sanguine Noble is a manageable boss if you take your time with it. This boss resides underneath the Writheblood Ruins. Use strong Spirit Ashes while fighting the Sanguine Noble.
Wormface
The Wormface is a deadly boss. It can inflict the death blight, which can instantly kill you if the death blight meter fills up. Stay on horseback and keeping your distance. This boss guards the Minor Erdtree in the center Altus Penninsula.
Godskin Apostle
Godskin Apostle makes his second appearance in the Dominula Windmill Village. Apostle can inflict heavy damage if you lower your guard or get careless. If you stay focused, then Godskin Apostle is a manageable boss.
Crystalians x2
This duo awaits the Tarnished warrior in the Altus Tunnel. You already know how to defeat the Crystalians. Focus on performing heavy attacks to stagger them quickly.
Omen Killer & Miranda the Blighted Bloom
Another duo boss awaits you in the Perfumer’s Grotto. It is a well-hidden cave near the Altus Tunnel. The trick to defeating the pair is to ignore Miranda. Dodge her magic while you take on the Omenkiller.
Ancient Hero of Zamoor
The Ancient Hero of Zamoor makes his second appearance in the Sainted Hero’s Grave. This boss has the same move set as the Ancient Hero of Zamoor you fought back in the Weeping Peninsula.
Fallingstar Beast
At this point, you may be wondering that most of the bosses in Altus Plateau are reused because this is the second time you are fighting the Fallingstar Beast. The Fallingstar Beast resides in the South Altus Plateau crater. Near the Tree Sentinel duo boss fight.
Tree Sentinel x2
You remember dying to the Tree Sentinel when you first set foot in the Lands Between. Now get ready to die while fighting two Tree Sentinel Bosses. Divide these two bosses and then fight them one at a time. They guard the entrance of Leyndall.
TwinBlade Gargoyle
You finally entered the main gate after defeating the Tree Sentinel duo. You’d think you won’t have to face any other boss for quite some time. You move forward, and you suddenly see a creature flying toward you.
The Twinblade Gargoyle has a giant Twinblade, which will force you to roll multiple times. This boss is aggressive, and it is likely that you won’t be able to keep up with him for long.
The trick to beating him is to be aggressive but not get greedy.
Margit, The Fell Omen
After defeating the Twinblade Gargoyle, you move along the path and hear a familiar voice. Margit returns and wants a rematch. He has the same move set as when you fought him at Stormveil Castle entrance. Show him how much you have improved since then.
Deathbird
Another returning boss awaits you at the North of Leyndall Outskirts. A reminder that you can only fight the Deathbirds at night.
Bell Bearing Hunter
You have already bested the Elemer Of The Briar. So Bell Bearing Hunters should be manageable for you now. One thing to note is that this is the strongest Bell Bearing Hunter.
Onyx Lord
An Onyx Lord is found in the Sealed Tunnel. The tunnel is at the south end of Leyndall Outskirts. This boss guards the Divine Tower of West Altus.
Draconic Tree Sentinel
You decide to finally enter the city of Leyndall and see the back entrance being guarded by a scarier version of Tree Sentinel. The Draconic Tree Sentinel hits harder than any other variant. Its move set is quite similar to the normal Tree Sentinel, but one wrong move, and you will see the “ You Died” screen.
The Draconic Tree Sentinel can also infuse his weapon with lightning, can perform lightning attacks, and his horse can throw fireballs at you.
Once you defeat this boss, then here are a few mini-bosses in Leyndall that deserve your attention before you take on the veiled monarch of Leyndall.
Erdtree Avatar
The Erdtree Avatar returns once again, but this time it is not defending any Minor Erdtree. The Erdtree Avatar will spawn as you are exploring the streets of Leyndall.
Crucible Knight Ordovis & Crucible Knight
The Crucible Knights are undoubtedly one of the hardest enemies in Elden Ring. In this boss fight, you are forced to fight two of them at once. One knight has a spear while the other has a sword and a shield. Try to use powerful spirit summons in the Crucible duo. This duo resides in the Auzira Hero’s Grave.
Esgar, Priest of Blood
Esgar, Priest of Blood, resides in Leyndall catacombs. Eh is accompanied by two rot-infused dogs and uses blades that inflict bleed damage. He is aggressive, so stay on the move and time your dodges.
Godfrey, First Elden Lord
As you are on your way to finding the veiled monarch of Leyndall. You will come across a suspicious-looking arena. As you enter the arena, the spirit of the first Elden Lord now blocks your way.
The spirit of Godfrey is an aggressive boss with a powerful ax and foot stomps. The strategy here is to keep a cool mind. Do not try to end this fight quickly. Take your time and time your dodges.
Morgott, The Omen King
You finally made it to the Throne Room of Leyndall. Morgott is essentially a stronger and faster version of Margit. Morgott has a new set of skills to use against the Tarnished warrior.
He has follow-up attacks, and he likes to mix up different combos. Morgott is a formidable opponent. The trick for beating Morgott is to perform heavy attacks and stagger him. You can also use Spirit Summons to make this fight easier.
After defeating Morgott, you may be tempted to venture off to the Mountain Top Of The Giants. But, make a detour to Mt. Gelmir first. The Lord Of Blasphemy awaits.
You may consider taking on some of these bosses before taking on the next Demi-God. Also, consider reading our guide on Best Black Flame Build in Elden Ring.
Mohg, The Omen
After defeating Morgott, you may want to consider exploring the sewers of Leyndall. Uncover its secrets and take on Mohg, The Omen. This boss is generally a weaker version of the Lord of Blood. Mohg, The Omen hits hard and inflicts bleed damage.
Demi-Human Queen Margot
Demi-Human Queen Margot is an extremely weak boss that players will find in the Volcano Cave. But Margot is surrounded by Demi-Humans, so keep an eye out for them.
Red Wolf Of Champion
Getting to this boss is tougher than the boss itself. The Red Wolf of Champion has the same move set as the Red Wolf of Radagon, and it resides in the Gelmir Hero’s Grave.
Kindred Of Rot x2
Kindred Of Rot is easy compared to most of the bosses you will face in Mt. Gelmir. This duo resides in the Seethewater Cave.
Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast
The Full Grown Fallingstar Beast is a bigger, stronger, and scarier version of a Fallingstar Beast. It has more health, is more aggressive, and it hits harder than the rest. Its massive AoE attack is difficult to dodge, and this boss also has ample resistance. Do not consider the Full-Grown Fallingstar Beast a major boss because it can easily be skipped.
Wormface
Another Warmface awaits you near the Road of Iniquity Site Of Grace. Needless to say, keep your guard up and stay clear of its death blight attacks.
Fire Prelate
The Fire Prelate boss resides in Fort Laiedd. This fort is located west of Mt. Gelmir. Fire Prelate is pretty tough but weak to frost. Use its weakness against it and be aggressive to end the boss quickly.
Magma Wyrm
Two Magma Wyrms can be found in Mt. Gelmir. One resides near Fort Laiedd, while the other resides near the lift that takes you to the Godskin Noble boss in the legacy dungeon of the Volcano Manor.
Abductor Virgin x2
Here is an interesting boss; you can not access this boss from anywhere within the Volcano Manor. In order to fight this boss, you have to go back to the Academy of Raya Lucaria. You need to intentionally let yourself be killed by the Abductor Virgin grab attack who resides in the deepest level of the academy.
Demi-Human Queen Maggie
Demi-Human Queen Maggie is another easy boss in Mt. Gelmir. This boss can be found beyond the Hermit Village.
Godskin Noble
The Godskin Noble makes another appearance in the legacy dungeon part of the Volcano Manor. The exact location of this boss is in the temple of Eiglay. Defeating this boss is somewhat compulsory if you wish to reach Rykard through the legacy dungeon of Volcano Manor.
Rykard, The Lord Of Blasphemy
The boss fight begins with you having to fight the God Devouring Serpent. You can not use just any weapon in this boss fight. You have to use the weapon given to you when you enter the arena.
The God Devouring Serpent is humongous and aggressive, but its attacks are easy to dodge. Once you have defeated the God-Devouring Serpent. Don’t rest just yet, and the real fight has only begun.
After the cutscene, your next opponent is Rykard, The Lord Of Blasphemy himself. Prepare to dodge a lot because Rykard is going to turn his arena into the depths of hell itself. Attack with your special spear on every opening you see but do not get greedy with your strikes.
Once you have defeated Rykard, make a small detour to the Deeproot Depths to fight the next Legend and complete Fia’s Questline.
Valiant Gargoyles
As you are on your way to the Deeproot Depths. You are bound to come across the Valiant Gargoyles. You are face to face with one gargoyle, and once you deplete 50% of its health. Another gargoyle joins, and it becomes a 2v1 boss fight.
This is a subtle reference to the Bell Gargoyle boss fight from Dark Souls 1.
Erdtree Avatar
As soon as you enter the Deeproot Depths. The first boss you will most probably encounter is another Erdtree Avatar.
Crucible Knight Siluria
Another Crucible Knight awaits you in one of the corners of Deeproot Depths. Underneath a broken tree.
Fia’s Champions
This boss fight will only be available for you once you have progressed enough in Fia’s Questline. The champions you will fight are not necessarily tough, but they will give you a hard time if you get careless.
Lichdragon Fortissax
It is time for your next major boss. After defeating Fia’s Champions, players now have the option to continue Fia’s questline. Once they have reached the end of the quest, then players have the option to enter the Deathbed Dream.
Fortissax move set is a little similar to the Lansseax move set, but Fortissax uses lightning more excessively and can inflict the death blight.
So stay clear of the death blight clouds unless you wish to die a painful death. After defeating Lichdragon Fortissax, Fia’s quest is now complete. Before you venture off to the Mountain Top of the Giants.
Defeating special bosses drops Remembrances so before I continue my guide for Elden Ring, consider reading our guide on 15 Best Remembrances Weapons in Elden Ring.
Flying Dragon Greyll
The Flying Dragon Greyll is located on a Farrum Greatbridge in Caelid. The bridge is also visible on the map. This dragon has the same move set as most of the dragons you have fought up to this point, but the Greyll boss fight happens on a bridge, so your mobility is limited.
Black Blade Kindred
After defeating Greyll, you will find yourself face to face with the Black Blade Kindred. This boss guards the front door to Bestial Sanctum. The Black Blade Kindred is an aggressive boss, and it hits hard, so caution is required when you fight it.
After this boss fight, you are done with every boss fight before the mountain Top of Giants, and you can now venture off to continue your journey without looking back.
Fell Twins x2
As you are on your way to the Mountain Top of Giants. Instead of going down the lift, make your way along the bridge to the Divine Tower of East Altus. The screen will go dark, and your fight against the duo with begin. This duo can be staggered, and one is more aggressive.
Use that to your advantage; fight one at a time and be aggressive. Spirit summons can also make this fight more manageable.
Night’s Cavalry
You finally made it to the Mountain Top of the Giants. The first mini-boss to await you in the Forbidden Lands is once again the Night’s Cavalry. Except this one is a little tougher than the rest.
Black Blade Kindred
Black Kindred Black makes a second appearance to defend the Grand Lift of Rold. This variant is just as tough as the one you fought in Caelid, so don’t get careless.
Ancient Hero of Zamoor
Since Mountain Top of the Giants is an end-level area, so the bosses reused here are tougher. The Ancient Hero of Zamoor is no exception. This boss resides in Giant-Conquering Hero’s Grave.
Erdtree Avatar
Hey, look, It’s another stronger variant of the Erdtree Avatar. This one defends the East Minor Erdtree.
Death Rite Bird
At this point, you may be thinking about whether you will encounter a new boss or not. The Death Rite Bird resides on the north mountaintop.
Tibia Mariner
In an area filled with reused bosses. It may grant you some comfort to see the boat boss again. This boss rides his boat on the north mountain top near the Death Rite Bird.
Commander Niall
Defeating Commander Niall is not required to complete your journey of becoming Elden Lord, but defeating this boss is required if you wish to fight two more Demi-Gods thus, Commander Niall is worthy of being called an essential boss.
Commander Niall is a frustrating boss. As you enter the arena, the boss summons two powerful Banish Knights. Use Spirit Summons in this boss fight and focusing on killing the knights.
Even if you succeed in defeating the knights, Commander Niall is not an easy boss. His lightning attacks are difficult to dodge and can deal massive damage.
Vyke, Knight of the Roundtable
Vyke is a spear user and can perform lightning incantations. Do not underestimate this boss. Vyke can end you quickly if you are not careful. Vyke is located in the Lord’s Contender Evergaol.
Borealis The Freezing Fog
Borealis is a dragon you will encounter in the Mountain Top of The Giants. This boss has the same move set as most of the dragons you have encountered in Elden Ring, but Borealis is also tougher.
Spirit Caller Snail
The Spirit Caller Snail makes its second appearance in the Spiritcaller’s Cave. What makes the Spirit Caller a formidable foe is that the boss summons a Godskin Apostle and then a Godskin Noble before it presents itself, which makes this fight pretty challenging.
Fire Giant
The next Legend you will come face to face with is the Fire Giant. The Fire Giant is a humongous boss, and it has numerous AoE attacks. This boss fight is frustrating for a lot of people because of the boss’s huge health pool.
Stay on your trusty spectral speed for this fight and being patient. Because the Fire Giant is strong enough to end you in one or two hits.
After defeating this boss, it may be tempting to go and commit the cardinal sin, but you must prefer exploring the hidden area of the Mountain Tops of the Giants before you trigger the end game. These side bosses may be a good source for some runes before you take on the next Demi-God.
For more information on how to access the hidden area of the Mountain Top of the Giants, consider reading our guide on How to get to Rold Route.
Putrid Grave Warden Duelist
The Putrid Grave Warden Duelist is a tougher and more terrifying version of the Grave Warden Duelist. This boss can inflict rot, so stay on your toes when you take on the Putrid Grave Warden Duelist.
Night’s Cavalry x2
The Night’s Cavalry returns for one last time. This duo patrols the lower region of Consecrated Snowfields at night.
Astel, Stars of Darkness
If you are looking for a rematch with the boss that looked like a hidden final boss from Bloodborne then Astel, Stars of Darkness awaits you in the Yelough Anix Tunnel. In case you forgot, keep an eye out for its grab attack that instantly kills you.
Great Wyrm Theodorix
The Magma Wyrm returns for one last time, and this variant is the strongest of them all. The Great Wyrm Theodorix resides just outside the Cave of The Forlorn on the Consecrated Snowfield river.
Putrid Avatar
The Putrid Avatar defends the West Minor Erdtree in the Consecrated Snowfield. Keep an eye out for its Scarlet Rot.
Death Rite Bird
The Death Rite Bird is ready to make its final appearance at the point where the frozen river meets the edge of the mountain in the Consecrated Snowfield. This boss only summons at night.
Misbegotten Crusader
The aggressive boss from Castle Morne returns with a brand new sword to show off. It has the same move set as the one you fought many hours ago. The Misbegotten Crusader resides in the Cave of The Forlorn.
Mohg, Lord of Blood
The Lord of Blood awaits you in the Mohgwyn Palace. Getting to the Mohgwyn Palace from the Consecrated Snowfield is quite tricky, but I got that covered in our How to Get To Mohgwyn guide.
Mohg is one of the strongest Demi-Gods you will face in Elden Ring. He has a devastating ability that will force you to use 3 Crimson Flask of Tears. Use your Flask of Wondrous Physick and Purifying Crystal Tear to avoid this attack.
After defeating Mohg, Lord of Blood. It is time for you to head to the Haligtree and face the undefeated swordswomen.
Loretta, Knight of the Haligtree
Loretta, Knight of the Haligtree, is a stronger and tougher version of Loretta you faced back in Liurnia. She defends the entrance to the Elphael, so defeating her is required if you wish to reach Malenia.
Putrid Tree Spirit
Near the Elphael Inner Wall Site of Grace. You can reach a small area after climbing some roots. This area has a small rot lake where the Putrid Tree Spirit resides.
Putrid Avatar
There are two Putrid Avatars in Elphael. One can be found wandering at the edge of Elphael. You can reach that place after proceeding forward from the Prayer Room and jumping onto one of the pillars.
The Second Putrid Avatar can be found defending one of the gates in Elphael alongside numerous enemies. Right outside the Elphael Inner Wall Site of Grace.
Malenia, Blade of Miquella
This boss can very easily be considered the hardest boss in Elden Ring because of her life steal ability. She is the one who fought Radahn to a stalemate in his prime. That alone speaks volumes about how strong she is.
Malenia is a formidable opponent, and it is perfectly fine if you leave this boss for later, but try to defeat her before you commit the cardinal sin.
If you succeeded in defeating her, then now it is time to burn the Erdtree and access the end-game without looking back.
Ancient Dragon
As you explore the region of Farum Azula, you are bound to come across numerous Ancient Dragons. These dragons are very much like Lansseax. You will encounter the first dragon as you move toward the objective.
The second dragon is found in an optional area after taking the lift down from the Crumbling Beast Grave Depths. Jump across the floating rocks, and you will see the arena.
Players will spot the third dragon as they head toward the Dragon Temple. Players can fight it once they reach the temple.
The fourth Ancient Dragon is found sleeping next to the Dragon Temple. Since the dragon is asleep, you can use that to your advantage and start the fight with your strongest move.
Players will spot the fifth dragon as they move toward their objective.
Wormface
This terrifying boss makes its final appearance in the Farum Azula. It is found on the lake below the Crumbling Beast Grave Depths. Near the second ancient dragon.
Godskin Duo
It is time for the most frustrating and one of the most hated bosses in Elden Ring. In this boss fight, players are required to fight both Godskin Apostle and Godskin Noble together. The Godskin Duo are a deadly pair.
Both have the black flaming ball attack, which they love to use against you whenever you try to heal. This fight requires patience.
The Godskin Duo are weak to bleed, so before I continue the guide for Elden Ring, consider reading our Best Bleed Weapons in Elden Ring guide.
Draconic Tree Sentinel
The Draconic Tree Sentinel stands in the way between you and Maliketh, The Black Blade. Defeating this boss is not required to access the Maliketh boss fight, but killing the Draconic Tree Sentinel will make running back to the boss arena after you die a lot easier and convenient.
Dragonlord Placidusax
Before you fight Maliketh and be done with Farum Azula, consider shifting your attention to this secret boss, who is also considered one of the Legend bosses in Elden Ring.
The Dragonlord Placidusax is the mightiest dragon of them all. It has two heads and loves to spew fire underneath its body, thus making your usual tactics against dragons useless. The Dragonlord can also teleport and has a laser attack similar to Midir’s laser attack from Dark Souls 3.
You can reach the Dragonlord after heading down the lift from the Great Bridge. Head outside the front door, go to the edge, and you will see a platform. Jump down, and proceed along the path. You will find several burial areas. Lie down in the burial area that does not have any bones in it, and you will be teleported to the boss arena.
Before I continue the guide, consider giving Elden Ring Faith vs Intelligence guide a read.
Maliketh, The Black Blade
The fight begins with you having to fight the Beast Clergyman. Do not underestimate this boss. The Beast Clergyman man is fast, agile, and unpredictable, making it a powerful and frustrating opponent.
After you deplete 50% of its health, the Beast Clergyman reveals itself to be Maliketh the Black Blade. Maliketh is one of the hardest bosses in Elden Ring. The Black Blade of Maliketh is the one thing feared by every Demi-God in Elden Ring. Maliketh has the ability to reduce your total health for a small period that feels like an eternity.
After defeating Maliketh, The Black Blade, you are now closer than ever to completing your journey and becoming Elden Lord.
Putrid Tree Spirits x3
After defeating Maliketh, you will find yourself in Leyndall once again. You can either continue your journey or warp yourself to the Forbidden Lands Site of Grace. Enter Leyndall through there, follow the path, and you will come across three Putrid Tree Spirits. They hit extremely hard, so only fight one at a time.
If you have been following along with our boss order guide, then with this, you have defeated every mini-boss in Elden Ring.
Sir Gideon Ofnir, The All Knowing
I consider Gideon as one of the major bosses in my guide because defeating Gideon is required if players wish to progress any further in the game. In the same arena where you fought the spirit of Godfrey. You will find Sir Gideon Ofnir giving his monologue. And he intends to stop you from becoming Elden Lord.
You must have fought numerous NPCs throughout your journey. Sir Gideon Ofnir is by no means an easy boss, but he is not a tough boss either. You only need to keep your guard up and be aggressive to beat him.
Godfrey, The First Elden Lord/ Horah Loux
This boss can very easily be considered one of the best bosses in Elden Ring. You may remember some of his moves when you fought his spirit many hours ago.
But Godfrey is stronger, faster, tougher, and more aggressive than its spirit. Once you deplete around 40-50%, Godfrey reveals himself to be Horah Loux, and this boss is unlike any other boss you have seen in Elden Ring.
Godfrey ditches his ax and fights you with his fist. He unleashes a few of the most deadly grab attacks you have ever seen. Godfrey becomes more aggressive than ever in his second phase, and it turns into a fight you will never forget. Do not underestimate the first Elden Lord. He is a formidable opponent.
Radagon of The Golden Order/ The Elden Beast
You finally made it to the end. Nothing stands between you and the Elden Ring as you enter the boss arena after a confusing cutscene. Radagon of The Golden Order now stands in front of you.
The battle against Radagon requires you to dodge a lot, Radagon is aggressive, and he uses a lot of AoE attacks. He performs Holy attacks, so increasing your resistance against Holy damage may be a good idea.
After you fully deplete the health of Radagon. The second phase of this fight begins in which you have to fight the Elden Beast.
At first glance, you may feel disappointed, but the Elden Beast is easier than Radagon. The only downside of this fight is that the Elden Beast runs away a lot which makes the Elden Beast fight stale and longer than it needs to be.
If you followed along with the guide from the start till finish, then after defeating this boss, you should feel proud. You have defeated every boss in Elden Ring. Now go and claim your title as the Elden Lord.
My Take
I’ll suggest that you should take on the main bosses at least once. All of the main boss fights, including the optional ones, are some of the best boss fights From Software has made.
From the soundtrack to the design of their arenas and the variety in their moveset, these bosses should at least be experienced once. On the other hand, you can skip most of the field bosses and dungeon bosses as they get repeated a lot, and most of them aren’t even that fun and engaging to fight.
That concludes my boss order guide for Elden Ring. With over 100+ boss fights in Elden Ring. Players can get confused about which boss or mini-boss should they fight next, depending on their progression.
In this guide, I have informed you of the ideal order for all major bosses and which mini-bosses should you consider fighting before the next major boss.
I hope my guide helped you. The game is available now on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, and PC through Steam. Do let me know what you think about the game in the comment section below.
